Adults to Share

Welcome! Thanks in advance for your interest.

WE KEEP THIS PAGE CURRENT. IF THERE ARE NO GOATS LISTED HERE, THEN WE HAVE NONE AVAILABLE. 😉

The best way to contact us is via email: storybook.farm.wv@gmail.com. Though we have a Facebook farm page, the Meta platform is clunky and unreliable. Email is best.

We are doing a major herd reduction this year to make room for babies that we wish to retain this year. (We are also, generally speaking, downsizing our herd by 1/3.) Ouch!

Listed below are the does / bucks that we will be offering to share with you. Each year, it gets harder and harder to let quality animals go as we watch our herd improve, but it is also our joy to be able to bless other farmers with quality goats. 🙂

Does in milk can be put under agreement at any time, but will not leave the farm before their kids are 12 weeks old (for doeling kids) or 10 weeks old (for buckling kids) unless their kids are taking the bottle well. The descriptions tell the dates that we estimate they should be available.

The entire herd is tested yearly for diseases. We tested clean in late summer of 2023 for Johnes, CL, and CAE.

For more information on udders, pedigrees, etc., visit the animal’s individual page, LINKED TO THEIR NAMES in blue text.

We believe that it is less stressful for goats to move farms with a friend. Therefore, we offer a 5% discount on two or more goats purchased together.

Does to Share

It is always super hard to list our adult goats for sale, because we love them all after years of owning them and because (after five years of breeding) we have reduced our herd to all of our does being of great quality. However, barns are only so big, so we have to share our girls. We care about their new homes and caretakers, so please don’t be offended if we ask about your farm. It’s only because we care!

Storybook’s Valentine

Valentine is one of our favorites. She was born on Valentine’s Day to our best foundation doe, Hurlburt’s Buttercup 2*P in 2021. For various reasons (not her own fault at all), Valentine was not bred until 2024. She produced a singleton doeling, Sweet Pea, whom she adores. We LOVE Valentine, but are needing to make deep cuts even among our better animals, so Valentine is moving on this year. She has yet to be separated for 12 hours, so I have no udder picture yet, but will have soon. You can see her pedigree and the udders behind her HERE. We are hoping that Valentine can do with her adored doeling, Sweet Pea. If so, we are offering a discount, and they can go anytime. If not, Valentine will be ready to go the end of May. Sold as a doe in milk: F5 $600.

Storybook’s Marguerite

Marguerite, who was born in January of 2022, is blue eyed and polled. She kidded last year with a singleton doeling, whom she rejected, but this year she again kidded with a singleton blue-eyed, polled doeling and is totally in love with her. The doeling’s name is Louise, and she is also for sale (click HERE to see her).

Marguerite is trained to the stand and, if she and her doeling go to the same farm, they are available anytime. Click HERE to see Marguerite’s FF udder and the udders behind her.

If she is sold separately, she will be available in June, 2024. Sold as a doe in milk. Blue eyed and polled. F3 $650.

Storybook’s Celeste

Celeste is another farm favorite that we hate to see go. She is a beautiful, sweet, moonspotted, blue-eyed girl. She is a great mother and had a nice FF udder. She is out of Storybook’s Twinkle by Bellhouse’s Rigel *B.

She was not bred this year because she became anemic from worm overload late last summer, and we wanted to give her a year to recover. She’s doing great now: fat and happy.

Celeste is F3. $500.

Storybook’s Briar Rose

Rosie is a character! She has a beautiful udder and is out of one of our favorite dams, JC’s Bluebelle 3*P. She has great breed character and is long-bodied. This year, Rosie’s two bucklings came too early (we think as the result of a butting contest) which was very disappointing as we were confident of her gaining her milk star.

As we look at our herd, we have her dam, her full sister, Pansy, coming along and also this year’s half sister (by a different sire who we need to prove out) so we are sadly letting her bless another farm. Rosie is F5 and in milk at a low volume due to miscarriage. $550.

Storybook’s Mayflower

Mayflower is a three-year-old first freshener this year. For a number of reasons–none her fault–we did not get her bred until this year.

She freshened with one gorgeous boy. Because we have other girls coming along who we need to keep more, we are offering her as a doe in milk. We will soon have 12-hour separation udder pictures. She will be ready to leave after May 11.

Mayflower is sold as a doe in milk. F5. $600

Storybook’s Caramel Macchiato

Cara is gorgeous, but didn’t take when bred to Sid twice this year. In 2022, she was also bred to Sid, but she was one of four that did not take from Sid that year because he was then a juvenile. He has successfully bred others this year, so we don’t know what to think about Cara.

She is moonspotted and blue eyed, with a gorgeous conformation and breed character, and a great pedigree. Her sister had triplets for us last year. Possibly another buck would settle her? She is sweet and friendly.

We are offering her as a pet with no papers: $150. If you would like to have her as a breeding doe, and see if she will settle with your buck under your management, she is offered at $350.00 with papers.

WE ALSO HAVE JUVENILE DOES (ABOUT A YEAR OLD) LISTED ON OUR “KIDS LOOKING” PAGE: PLEASE CLICK HERE AND SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM.

Bucks to Share

Storybook’s Buckeye *B

Born in March of 2023, Buckeye was a much-longed-for gift to us. His sire, Green Gables E Asher *B died of meningeal worm in the fall of 2022, but before that he bred four does (click on his name to see udders behind him).

JC’s Bluebelle 3*P (please click on her name to see udders behind him) was one of those does. She had been bred to Asher before, and gave us two outstanding does: Storybook’s Briar Rose (whose udder is beautiful in every way) and his littermate sister, Storybook’s Pansy!

Buckeye sired two litters this year, and we have retained one of his doelings, Storybook’s Bit O Honey. (See his other kids HERE.) In the overall picture of our herd, he is closely related to many of our highest quality does, so we are sharing him with another farm.

Buckeye is F5 AND *B. $550.

Mosaic’s Mahogany Obsidian *B

Sid is a handsome, purebred boy who has worked his way out of a job here. We bred our best senior does to him this year, and he’s given us some gorgeous doelings. See them on his page, along with the udders behind him, here.

Looking at the big picture, we wouldn’t use him again for two years, so we’re going to grow out his son (Dappled Willow) and let Sid go to bless another farm.

Sid is F6 (Purebred) and *B: $575.00
