Storybook’s Nonpareil (Nonny) (F6)

Nonny is a really NICE boy who was born on our farm on 2/13/22. His dam was a first freshener, but her milk heritage was so strong, and her udder so promising, that we just had to keep him. Her 2F udder proved us right!

Purebred Nonny joins three of our favorite (and most productive) lines here at Storybook Farm. His dam is Storybook’s Briar Rose, whose dam is JC’s Bluebelle 3*P and sire is Bellhouse’s Rigel *B. Bluebelle has arguably the best overall udder in our barn.

See pictures of these fine udders below, and click on their names to read more! He inherited his brown eyes and chocolate color from his dam, grand dam and great grand dam, and threw black kids in 2023 for us. We hope that he will have a *B added in 2024.

In this picture Nonny is 14 months old in mid-April, 2023.

He has his sire’s LOOONNNG ears and body. Nonny’s sire is Bellhouse’s Rigel *B. Rigel’s dam, Echo Hills Sparrow *P, has boatloads of milk and wonderful teat placement. See pictures below for his nearest parental relationships. (Click on these names to see udders and Nonny’s forebearers further back.)

Nonny Growing Up

Nonny’s Registration

Nonny’s Dam Line

Nonny was born a singleton to Briar Rose, as a first freshener. We love Rosie’s dam, Bluebelle, so much that we kept Nonny and used him this year on five does. Below are his Dam and Great Dam’s udders. We also retained Rosie’s full brother and son as future herdsires, hence Nonny is for sale.

Rosie’s first freshening udder, nursing her singleton boy, Nonny. We are not milk testing in 2023 (and Rosie was bred too late to test in any case) but we are expecting her to gain her milk star in 2024, in which case Nonny will become a *B.

Rosie’s second freshening udder was all that it promised to be! High, with a lovely escutcheon, strong attachments and medial, and perfect teat placement. What a difference it makes to be nursing triplets!

This is JC Bluebelle 3*P, in her 3rd freshening. She has perfect teat placement, great attachments, and a nicely blended fore udder. She is also very productive.

See Bluebelle’s full littermate sister’s (JC’s Snowdrop 3*P) udder HERE. Snowdrop edged out her sister in milk testing for volume and butterfat.

Nonnie’s Sire Line

Bellhouse’s Rigel *B was the first buck we brought home. He sired a great number of kids here at Storybook Farm, which you can see by clicking his name link.

We originally retained Nonny to fill Rigel’s hoofprints, but because Nonny is so integrated with Buttercup’s line (whose blood and udders form a full half of our herd) through his dam, we find that we only have a few does that he can service after this year.

He’s too good to waste! See Rigel’s dam line.

Rigel’s dam: Echo Hills Sparrow *P. You can see udder pictures and pictuers of her kids by following the link to her name here.

Nonny’s Kids

2023 Kids

Nonny bred one doe early in the season: JC’s Penelope. Then, later in the season in 2022, four more girls, all of whom took. They are Storybook’s Sheila O’Malley, Storybook’s Doux Champagne, Storybook’s Mocha, and Storybook’s Tiger Lily.
